If you want to visit a NexGen lounge, the Nocturna Lounge is the best place to be. This review will be talking about this lounge, to make you aware of the best things you can only find in a sophisticated lounge in the city, just like Nocturna Lounge. The first time I went there was with a good friend and owner of a tree trimming Hawaii company – Russell B.

About the Lounge

Nocturna Lounge is the first NextGen Lounge in Hawaii that is dedicated to providing an elegant as well as a very wonderful karaoke experience that you will surely treasure for the rest of your life. They also offer their valued customers with new generation, latest video game consoles that feature what is new when it comes to social gaming. Outing Review: HUSH Bar

The name itself is intriguing already. Bars are known for being crowded and noisy and something with the word Hush on its name can definitely ignite anyone’s curiosity. Well, there are lots of reasons why HUSH Bar is one of the most renowned after dark go-to hangouts in the place, and it is for a good reason.

Found on Queen Street and Cooke Street, there is certainly no one who wouldn’t want to check out a place called HUSH. Say this slowly and softly and you will never be able to resist stepping inside its premises. But warn you, it is not that kind of place.

Upon walking in, you will find the tables on your right side, together with the karaoke rooms and dart boards. On some days, the weekdays specifically, there is a smaller crowd in the area and it can be a big plus if this is the very first time that you will be dropping by the place. The bar itself is big and spacious so you don’t have to worry about finding the perfect spot during your stay.

The place has also been renovated just recently and you can see with your own two should you drop by that the renovation is really a success because what was produced was a very nice place conducive for some great times with your buddies. The overall décor and the dart boards give off a very modern feel.  Continue reading

Big Business Review: Starbucks

This is a “circle in a room full of squares” review since I usually only do local business reviews. But I wanted to do a review on the gigantic coffee chain Starbucks. Why? Because I find myself at a Starbucks every time. In fact, yes, I’m at a Starbucks right now writing this blog post. Go figure. Maybe that’s why I feel like writing about them. They must be doing a good job huh?

Well they do. But when you really think about why people go to Starbucks and stay there for hours at a time, the answer isn’t so clear.

There is that small percentage of people who go there just to get a drink or a quick “pick-me-up”. But what makes people stay in Starbucks to do things like homework, professional work, read, hold business meetings, hold church meetings, talk on the phone, just sit there, or whatever it is. Its mind boggling.

For one, it’s very noisy. Realistically, Continue reading

Local Pro Business Review: Personal Accountant Inc.

I needed to write this quick review because I loved my first service experience with this particular local Hawaii business.

I was seeking out an accountant to outsource my bookkeeping needs for my business (hey I need to free up time to write more reviews right?). So in my search I searched the Google-plex for “accountants Hawaii“. I came across Google’s 1 zillion+ search query results relating to accountant in Hawaii. The one that stuck out to me was Personal Accountant Inc.’s website listing. I guess it was just the name that attracted me. So I clicked through to their website and stumbled upon the portrait of a beautiful team of accountants.

Reading their webpage, they seemed pretty professional and offered exactly what I was looking for. Not only do they offer bookkeeping services, but also Continue reading

Foodie Review: Max’s Of Manila

Perfect weather year round, vibrant beaches, bluish ocean, tropical trees, sick surf, and hospitable people is not the only thing Hawaii has to offer the world. Hawaii is a melting pot of cultures and a various amount of cuisines, both contemporary and traditional variations, are widely offered in this place called paradise.

Hawaii birthed it’s own contemporary cuisine in the 90’s called Hawaii Regional Cuisine, which was inspired by the melting pot of cultures that we have. From food from the Hawaiian culture (of course), to Puerto Rican, to Japanese, Chinese, Korean, to Filipino, and more! All in which combined to inspire a very special cuisine that expresses Hawaii through food.

Over the years, Hawaii became known for it’s food and attracted small and large restaurateurs to open up shop on the islands, even international suiters as well, like the Filipino cuisine chain Max’s Of Manila, where we got to eat. And it would be my privilege to share my “food for thought” with you.

Max’s Of Manila, located in the heart of Waipahu, is a filipino restaurant founded in the Philippines as a small little spot to grab some grub. They’ve built a great reputation for their fried chicken. From a small spot, grew into a corporate chain that has made its way over seas internationally, and we are honored to have one in our back yard.

My and my girlfriend decided that some Filipino food would be the choice for our small little dinner date. We haven’t been to Max’s in a while so we thought it would be great to revisit the feeding frenzy.

Arriving there, it was busy. Well, it was a Saturday night, primetime for Filipino parties and a nice place to have dinner. They’re were several parties that was spread across the dining area. We could tell because of the several buffet lines that were set up with party decor. So, initially we though the wait was going to be long (we were hungry!). We placed our name with the friendly hostess and took a seat outside.

Less than 5 minutes into the wait Continue reading

Lifesaver Review: Hawaii Home Cleaners

Hawaii Home Cleaners

Time is valuable. It’s the most valuable thing that we have. It comes and goes but we can’t get enough of it.

Busy as I am with work, sometimes I run out of time to do the things that I love to do such as spending time with family, watching movies, and blogging.

So, I just pondered one day to figure out how could I get more time to do what I loved. I started jotting down in my head the activities that I spend throughout my day(s) of “dead time”. My list of dead time was comprised of:

  • Scrolling through social media (i.e. Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
  • “Daisy Chain” YouTube sessions (where watching one video leads to watching another, to another, to another…)
  • Daydreaming

And there were a few more that I thought of at the time that I can’t recall right now.

But the thing is I enjoy doing those things as well. Scrolling through social media I can keep up with friends and family that is not near. My “Daisy Chaining” YouTube sessions are majority educational self help sessions. And by daydreaming, that is when a lot of my ideas manifest from. So I did;t see any good reason to eliminate those activities to free up time.

I started thinking of other activities that I could eliminate to free up time. Cleaning was one of them.

Cleaning needs to be done, otherwise our home would be a pig sty. Both me and my wife spread the chores, but it’s not really the ideal quality time that we want. So I started thinking and weighing out the value of time we spent cleaning with the value of what we desired to do. Of course, without question, our quality time is more valuable.

So we decided to hire HOUSE CLEANERS! Woohoo!

We searched online and came across Hawaii Home Cleaners and called them up. They were very pleasant and professional. They asked us the following questions Continue reading

I Love Country Cafe Review

After getting an awesome tow service from Anthony with Oahu Towing Service, I went to my meeting and thank goodness I was on time. I had to run more errands with my girlfriend and partner out in Kaneohe and our tire held up just fine over the H3 drive.

I took my car to Goodyear to replace my two front tires (they recommended both to be changed so that they wear out evenly). While they serviced my car’s new shoes, I had already worked up a pretty good appetite for something good.

Gladly Windward Mall was close by and they had a food court. We rarely go to Windward Mall so we looked forward to eating somewhere new. In the food court we came across a corner restaurant called I Love Country Cafe (the Love was symbolized with a heart shape). Their wide array of menu items and choice caught my eye.

It is a local plate lunch style place with some traditional and contemporary local style food along with their original creations. They served breakfast and lunch/dinner dishes. There was A LOT of choices. It took us awhile to choose. We drooled there for about 5 minutes contemplating our first-time meal with them until we finally asked what’s their popular dishes.

In the front, where you order, they have real samples of their popular dishes nicely plated on ceramic plates, wrapped and displayed to have us drool over even more. The employee their announced and pointed to their Macadamia Nut Crusted Chicken dish as being one of their more popular dishes, which was great because that was the very one I was eyeing out.

We both came to a conclusion and we ordered their Macadamia Nut Crusted Chicken and my GF ordered the Corned Beef Hash Benedict. They offer the choice of a large portion and a smaller portion I guess equivalent to the regular and mini choices that other plate much places offer. We both took the larger sizes (hey we were hungry & we share). For my dish they offered the typical plate lunch choice of white rice, brown rice, or a tossed green salad (brown rice was it for me).

Our total came out to about $30 with a drink to share. $15 a head, it’s a little over average for a plate lunch restaurant.

They gave us a number and we sat to wait about 8 minutes for them to call our number out to pick up our food. The food came out in disposable plates with all the tools that we needed to go to work!

The Macadamia Nut Crusted Chicken came with 2 scoops of rice, the grilled mac nut breaded chicken over a bed of steamed broccoli, and topped with their special sauce for the dish. I received the dish as advertised on their display table but the chicken portion seemed a little smaller that what they had on their display plate.

My girlfriend’s Corned Beef Hash Eggs Benedict came with 2 of them slathered with a nice hollandaise sauce. She went with the potato choice, which was deep fried, over rice or tossed salad.

My dish: the grilled Mac Nut Chicken was Continue reading
